As the current director of the Pearls Drumming School and co-founder of the Rabbani Project, Sakinah has become a leading figure in the realm of devotional and creative expression. Her journey with drumming began at the age of 15. From the moment she stepped into the world of rhythm, she recognized the importance of making drumming and devotional singing accessible, particularly to women and children.

Sakinah has had the privilege of studying under and taking courses with renowned drummers and vocalists, including Mr Thomas, Elizabeth Knot, Ustadha Raneem Mohammad Ghazzawi, and Shaykh Muhammed Bennis, among many others. This wealth of knowledge has deeply informed her extensive experience in teaching drumming and devotional singing to communities worldwide—whether in schools, masaajid, or universities.

Sakinah is passionate about using creativity to deepen our love and connection to Allah and His beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), fostering healing, and building community. Sakinah continues to raise the flag in reviving these sacred arts.

In addition to her work in drumming, Sakinah took a year off from her Islamic Studies and Arabic degree to study Sira, the Stories of the Companions, Arabic, and Tajwid in Damascus in 2010.

Currently, she is continuing her Islamic studies through an Aalimiyah program, further deepening her knowledge to enhance both her spiritual and artistic contributions to her community.

  • Ghizlane is a classical Arabic singer specialising in Muwashshahat and Sufi poetry. She acquired her knowledge in this ancient and rich vocal art, along with the study of maqamat (modes) and iqa'at (rhythms), under the guidance of her mentor and teacher, Ustadh Khaled Alhafez from Syria, among other experts. Ghizlane has performed at cultural events in Canada, Peru, and her current home, Morocco. She believes her calling is to share the beauty of voice through soulful maqamat and classical Arabic poetry, expressing this passion through both performance and teaching. Ghizlane offers singing lessons in English to women from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, aiming to make this art form accessible to all, regardless of musical experience or proficiency in the Arabic language.

What People Are Saying About On-Demand Course

“The on-demand drumming course was a perfect introduction to how to play the daff. I've had a daff for quite some time now, but in my recent travels to Tarim, Yemen, I fell in love more deeply with the beauty of singing and drumming and how they complement one another and this course was a good way for me to pursue this newly found passion of mine.”

“I’m so grateful for this fabulous experience! This is an impressively well put together course mashaAllah!

The teaching is clear, perfectly paced and so engaging - I forget it’s online as it feels so personalised and Sakinah’s beautiful warmth shines through! The platform itself is easy to follow and organised so well, with the exercises and student portal breaking things down so it’s not overwhelming (everything’s not squished into one long lesson). The introduction frames the course so beautifully, giving meaning and purpose. The nasheeds chosen as absolute classics which makes it feel like you’re able to apply the lessons straight away which is motivating.

I’ve watched a few videos online and they’re nothing like what this course provides- if you’re genuinely keen to learn the duff, this is the perfect place to start! I’m inspired to continue through the other stages provided InshaAllah!”

“Ma'shallah, this is a great class that teaches not only drumming and singing but also enhances my spiritual practice. And as an older person, it's excellent exercise for the brain.”

“I loved it! Thank you so much. The pace was just right. Sakinah was an excellent teacher. She explained everything so clearly and the exercises were a really useful way of practicing what I'd learnt. It was so nice to be able to learn a rhythm each week and then practice it with a nasheed and immediately feel that what I was learning was benefitting me spiritually.

I felt the course really met my need of finding a healing and creative way to express my spirituality.”

“I really appreciated having the opportunity to do this online course, as it has got me back into drumming again after a break. It has helped me to build my confidence. I love the content and the structure of the lessons. Even for someone who might be a complete beginner I would encourage them to give it a go as they would be surprised at how much they could learn in doing this course.”

“I was blessed to experience this on demand course as if I was in a live class! The best part was that I was able to go at my own pace alhamdulillah!”
